I have read 32 of these books, and 15 are sitting on my book shelf for reading. However, I can't find any trace of this actually being on BBC. Do you have a link to the BBC article?

Sad as it is I've only read 14 of them and I just turned 20. I live in the middle of nowhere and went to a rinky-dink school, and I was assigned none of these books at all.

I read 51 books on this list. 49 to go! Started keeping track of books I've read in late 2003 and I've read 277 to date. Not to mention the X amount of books before that!!

I really think A Tree Grows In Brooklyn should have made the list!

Read 46 and I just turned 18 :) I've just made it my personal goal to have read all of this list sometime before I die.

um where is anything by truman capote? Picture of dorian Gray? Anything by Pushkin? More by F. Scott Fitzgerald? I have read 77 of the books on this list and that wasn't hard to do. they are all great books but this list is rubbish! JK Rowling is an amazing author but Harry Potter-Top 100 of ALL TIME? I think not Sorry. Also Paulo Coelho often is overlooked on these "greatest" lists and he deserves a mention surely

Whilst no sane person can deny Shakespeare is a prodigy and influence in literature, you can't really classify them as books because they aren't; they're plays. So in all fairness, Shakespeare should be left off the list.

I've read Shadow of the Wind and found it absolutely breathtaking, though not an easy read. However, I am wondering where Dead Souls is, as that to is a brilliant book.

These lists are subject to personal preference anyway. I'm 15 and am ashamed to say I've only read 8. I do hope to tackle War and Peace some day!

You must be some dumb fifteen year old. The kids these days. Shakespeare wrote more than "plays" and his scripts are rarely read as plays - they are read as literature.

According to the BBC which compiled this list, the average person has read only SIX of these titles. I've read four times the average, so does that mean that I have allowed three individuals to go completely illiterate? ;)
