Activities To Do With Your Sick Child While At Home

I am going into day two of having my kids home from school because of illness. I have to admit I am beginning to go a little insane.

It seems endless stress between trying to juggle my normal daily duties as well as keep the demanding child entertained so that we both survive the day.

Here is a list of activities that have so far worked for me to not only keep my sanity, but get them back on the road to health:

Movie Day

Moms always have the tendency to feel guilt every time the put their kid in front of a movie. Here is the truth, our children need to rest and if we don't find calming activities for them-they will find the active ones. So leave the pajamas on for the day. Let your children pick out movies for a marathon and enjoy some extra cuddle time. Besides, you can always sneak and do some laundry when the action in the movie gets intense.

Art Work

There is something relaxing about coloring. Even as adults, coloring quickly calms. Pull out the crayons, blank paper or coloring books and just color. You will be surprised how much you learn about your child during the process as they begin to share. Or it can be the most relaxing calmness you will ever experience with your child as you both color in silence.

Draw A Bath

Nothing feels better than a warm/hot bath. Fill the tub with toys and bubbles and give your child the full treatment. My son even likes candlelight. We throw in some matchbox cars and this kills almost an hour of play and relaxation. If congested, rub Vapor Rub on the child before getting in the bath. The warmth of the bath will let the vapors be more effective.

Playdoh

Playdoh is very therapeutic. Have fun molding the clay. For extra fun, create your own doctor tools such as a syringe, stethoscope or thermometer. This is also a calm activity that might surprise you at how much you learn about your child. This is especially good for preschoolers who have a hard time sitting still for any length of time.

Tasty Lunch

Soup always does the body good when you are sick and it is no different for your child. The great thing about marketing today is that the majority of can soup is targeted at your child. There is Dora, Batman, Goldfish, Pokemon, etc. Enjoy the time at the lunch table warming their hearts and bellies.

Nap

The best time of the day when a child is sick is the naptime. Let them sleep with you in the grown up bed. Cuddle with your child as you put them to sleep. Fill the bed with stuffed animals and pretend you are having a slumber party. Curl up with a good book and read them to sleep.

These are only a few suggestions. Know that your child will only be this young for what seems like a blink of an eye. Enjoy the closeness that you have being stuck all inside as a family. In today's society, the time together is too short and not very often. Take advantage and baby your child doing the things they love. Build memories during this stressful time.
