It is getting close to that time again. Three months of having to entertain kids! My brain is already in overdrive trying to come up with endless ideas that won't break my pocketbook.

The great news is that the Dollar Store can provide endless activities to last the summer through. Crafty activities to just plain fun activities-it should be your summer hook-up. Here are just a few of the activities we have planned and the shopping list of items.

Sponges: The Dollar Store has great sponges in all sorts of sizes that can provide endless activities. The smaller, thinner sponges can be cut up in all sorts of shapes. You can then use them as stampers for a painting project. You can have a car wash day. Kids love getting wet and letting them clean the car with big sponges is a fun summer activity. Another fun activity is to dress up in space clothes and use rubber bands to fix the sponges to your children's feet. The children can pretend to be walking in space.

Gardening: Why not teach your kids about nature. The store has everything from pots to put the plants in to seeds to plant. They even have gardening gloves. The kids will enjoy getting outside and watching something grow that they planted by their self. You can also use the stampers from earlier to pain the side of the pots. The only thing you might need to buy from another store is potting soil. It is a cheap way to even beautify your own house.

Jewelry Day: The store has endless supplies of stuff to make necklaces and bracelets. They have beads, ribbon, strings, little jewelry pieces and even macaroni. Kids can use markers to color the macaroni how they would like before making a necklace. They can also make nice July 4 th jewelry by using red, white and blue beads. Necklaces can also be made by threading a needle and stringing through some of the silk flowers.

Keep Up With Basic Skills: There are endless flash cards on everything from addition to multiplication to grammar cards. There are great classic novels as well. Stock up on these for those days where indoor work is necessary.

Go to the pool: there are tons of toys that will make pool time fun and at cheap prices. From water guns to dive sticks to balls-this is easy entertainment for the day. Another easy task that preschoolers will love is to paint with water. Buy a paintbrush and bucket and go paint a dry sidewalk. Kids will love watching their designs come to life with the water then dry.

I know it sounds silly, but now is the time to stock up for endless activities. Stock up on Playdoh, sidewalk chalk, kites, markers, paints and brushes, glue, stickers and even glow sticks. Kids love being creative with these things and are great staple items to keep the kids busy throughout the summer!
