Computers in the classroom bring learning to a whole new level for students. Students of today's generation have so many more opportunities thanks to the internet and availability of computers.

With this new technology, it can be a challenge for teachers to offer the best the Internet has to offer for kids. It can lead to better learning and advancement of skills if you know the right places to look online. Here are a few sites that are sure to be fun for your students as well as stretch their learning and education.

I have to admit, I was amazed when my own son came home to share how they were doing projects on the laptop in the classroom. He mentioned he had a list of questions to answer using the site wikipedia. I have to admit I was impressed with the teacher. Be aware of sites you go to for your information and with proper guidance, your students can use those sites as well. Be careful to guide them though so that they do not venture out to something they should not see.

Here are a few sites you should check out with your students.

www.spellingcity.com
This is a great site for your students to play games and practice spelling words at the same time. The kids love it. There is even a cute game based off of hangman in which kids try to guess the words before the cat catches the mouse. Very fun for those classes that have spelling tests each week.

www.funbrain.com
Funbrain was suggested to me from my son's gifted and talented teacher. It has endless games including math baseball. Games can work on addition, subtraction, multiplication as well as reading and puzzles.

www.brainpop.com
I think brainpop is one of the best science resources available online. Students can listen to lessons online, play games and answer questions. It also has social studies, reading and other subjects.

http://www.eric-carle.com/
This site is great for those interested in art or Eric Carle books. Eric Carle is an amazing illustrator. The site does not have a lot of games, but be sure and check out the video section. This is great to do in correspondence with reading some of his books.

www.pbskids.org
this site has endless resources for parents, teachers and kids. There is everything from coloring sheets to games to stories from your students favorite characters.

Other sites that can be beneficial is your local school district, local library and even favorite childhood authors and network stations. Sites do not necessarily have to be overly educational for the younger grades because you are introducing them to the computer. It allows them to get comfortable with using the computer like how to open sites, navigate through sites, use the keyboard and mouse, etc.
