It seems November came faster than the turkeys can take cover. If your family is like mine, you have a lot to be thankful for this year, but no time or plan to focus on your blessings.
There are several activities to honor your blessings as a family. One such quick method is creating a Family Thankfulness Jar.
I am sure you have heard of this activity before but never took the extra steps needed to create the jar. Now is the time to do it. It is a quick way to involve your entire family in Thanksgiving as well as get them all to realize the blessings they each have.
Next place strips of white paper by the jar along with markers or pens. Explain to your family that throughout their days, they can write down something they are grateful for as it happens. It could be a win on the soccer field, a high grade on a test, a neighbor or grandparent, etc.
The youngest can be invited to draw pictures or ask a grown-up for help. Your family may need encouragement to get started. When they tell you of a special thing or person, encourage them to write it down and put it in the jar.
When Thanksgiving Day approaches, use the jar as the centerpiece on the table. As dinner is taking place, take turns pulling the strips out and reading them. If you do it the entire year, you will be amazed at how many blessings your family has had.
I love this activity because it helps my kids to see how blessed they really are in life. It helps my husband and I see those blessings as well. When you get busy going from activity to activity, it is sometimes easy to get lost in the stress and lose faith.
This small quick activity brings all of those back. It helps you to remember how much you are loved and how blessings are abundant gifts that should never be taken for granted.
Enjoy the jar and sit back, and watch, as your family grows closer to one another. You might be surprised at what your family chooses as their blessings.
