Economical Family Activities For A Lazy Saturday

In our society, it is typical to spend Saturdays running from one event to another. Believe me I know.
We once had a day spent going from one birthday party to another then to a baseball practice. I felt the need to remind myself to breath throughout the day.
Kids are active which means as parents, we are active. When a Saturday finally comes in which you have no commitments, it is easy to think that you want to just stay home all day. If you are lucky, you want to stay in bed.
Have a Pajama day
My family loves wearing pajamas and it is a shame that you only get to wear them at night. Plan to spend the day in your pajamas inside. Plan a day of board games or plan a family tournament on the Wii. You can even bring tents inside or build them with sheets. Camp out inside. Have a movie marathon. The only rule is to wear pajamas all day.
Go to the local park
With spring among us, nothing is more fun then to spend time outside as a family. If your city or town does not have a park, start a petition as a family to get one. Do a fundraiser together, like washing cars, to raise money. Solicit businesses to help out. One of our favorite family parks was build by the local business community. Each piece of wood fencing surrounding the park has a different business name painted on it. It is an awesome park made mostly from strong wood. This can bring your family together as you do something good for the community, but it can also bring the community together.
Spring Clean
I know it doesn't sound very appealing, but you can play a party to celebrate having a clean house at the end of the day. Assign rooms or chores to each family member. Turn the stereo up and have a fun day of cleaning and organization. Your family will be able to accomplish something that will make you all feel cleaner and good.
Help a neighbor
Do you have an elderly neighbor? Commit as a family to help them for a day. Mow their yard, fix them dinner, etc. Your family will feel good knowing they were able to help someone else.
Chef school
Teach your kids how to cook. You can all dress up in aprons and chef hats and make a meal together. It is a great activity that gives life long skills. It also might inspire a young one to help out during the week and make dinner.
These are just a few suggestions. You know your family best, so plan something that they will love doing together. Go to a festival, take a nap, laugh together.
