Board games are traditionally a "can't go wrong gift" during the holiday season. Who doesn't like board games.
In our house, Friday nights are traditional game nights filled with pizza making and game fun. Board games are what bring families and friends closer. What board games are a must have this season. Here are the top five favorite must haves this season.
Bananagrams-O.k this game is the most addicting, most fun game around! Granted, there is no board, but it is still a family game. It comes in a funny banana bag, who doesn't like bananas? It is like Scrabble on Speed. The first time I ever played this game was a few years ago at a friend's house, I have been dying to keep playing. It is fun, hilarious and the great part is that you can really play by yourself or up to eight players.
Pictionary Man-The reviews on this game could not be better. Pictionary Man combines Pictionary with Charades to take this classic game to a whole new level. I love charades and this game just speaks to all the actors in my family. Get your clues from Pictionary Man himself - just look at the bottom of his foot to get your private clue. Then it's up to you to draw them, act them out and get your teammates to guess the word.
Connect 4X4 Double Grid Edition-This is based on the original game that we grew up loving. Now you can have up to four players at a time which works well for family game night. Participants t ake turns dropping checkers into the grid to create a line of 4 checkers horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. A Connect 4 can occur on either side of the grid or by weaving in and out of both grids
No Stress Chess-Ever wanted to know chess, but really don't want to take the time to learn all the rules. Here is a great game that allows you and your kids to learn with no stress. Game play progresses from drawing action cards, to having hands of cards, to playing regular chess .
Bonus game: Hasbro Family Game Night for the Wii-I know this is using electronics, but if you want more for your money, this is the game to buy. Version 2, the newest version, comes with Jenga, Pictureka, Operation, Bop It and Connect 4. Who says game night has to be around a table. It can still be fun playing traditional board games in a different medium.
These are just the top ones out there right now. They run from as low as $12 to $20, which are not bad prices for a year of family fun. The only question that remains is, do you let your children win? I would love to hear your answers in the comment section below or if you have a favorite game to add.
