The luck of the Irish is right around the corner with St. Patrick's Day fast approaching. Kids love learning about St. Patrick's Day because they are surrounded by it in the stores and community.

Here are a few art activities to use in the classroom.Art is always my favorite!

Shamrocks-Of course you have to have shamrock art for this theme! There are so many options these days.

Marble Painting-Cut out a shamrock and allow the kids to dip marbles in green paint. Then place the shamrock and green marble on a cookie sheet. Encourage the kids to roll the marble around.

Pepper Stamp-Cut a big green pepper in half. It should make a shamrock shape. Let the kids dip in paint and make their own shamrock.

Tissue Art-Have a template of a shamrock cut out for the kids. Allow the kids to tear pieces of construction paper or tissue into small pieces. Then allow them to glue it to the shamrock.

Glitter-Along the same lines have a shamrock cut out or let the kids cut it out. Then allow them to spread glue across the shamrock. Then allow them to sprinkle gold and green glitter on the shamrock.

Nature Art-Go for a walk and allow the kids to collect shamrocks and other greens for their art project. Then allow them to stick it to contact paper that is cut like a giant shamrock. Then cover it with a second piece of contact paper to seal it.

Spray Art-Mix water and green tempura paint in a squirt bottle. Go outside and let the kids squirt their shamrocks

Gold & Rainbows-You can't have St. Patrick's Day without some rainbow and gold art. Besides, it makes a great break from all the green.

Make some gold-Collect rocks on a nature walk or buy stones from your local home improvement store. Pull out the gold paint and allow the kids to use paintbrushes to make the rocks gold. Before the paint dries, allow the kids to sprinkle gold glitter. Then they have their own gold to take home!

Handprint Rainbows-These can be done individually or as a class. As a class, give each kid a color and let them put their handprints sideways in a band across a giant piece of butcher paper. As individuals, paint the tips of the fingers red, then the next little bit yellow, then green, blue and purple. Caution: Be creative, some kids hands are too small to get all the colors to improvise. Then stamp the hands on construction paper.

Paper Plate Rainbows-Cut a paper plate in half and allow the kids to glue cotton on the plate. Then let the kids glue rainbow-colored streamers to the plate to make a rainbow. You can use the other half of the plate painted gold to connect the rainbow or just let it fall.

These are just a few suggestions. By the end of the week, one this is for certain-your kids will definitely know the color green! Please feel free to leave any other ideas in the comment section below.
