It is fun to add holiday art to the classroom lesson plans, but what about those other centers in your classroom? How can you teach St. Patrick's Day in those other centers.

Here are a few activities for the entire classroom.

Sensory Table

I love this table because it can add so much to the classroom. Let's face it, it is the favorite center among the kids. Die some rice green and let the kids scoop and pour. Place green food coloring in shaving cream for a green fun time of playing in shaving cream. Place soil with shamrocks in the table with live worms for the kids to play with in the table.

Manipulatives

Laminate cut out green shamrocks then punch holes along the side. Buy some laces at the local shoe store to make Lacing cards. Shamrock number matching-Laminate shamrocks with different numbers on them from one to four. Have little shamrocks in a bowl for the kids to place them that amount on the big shamrock. Rainbow Blocks-Allow the kids to build with rainbow blocks. See if they can organize the colors like they are on the rainbow. Be sure to print out a picture of the rainbow for the center. Fruit Loop Fun- Using a rainbow picture as an example, have the students follow the pattern using fruit loops and string to make necklaces.

Drama Center

Pull out the kitchen for some green food fun. Get out the pretend peas, broccoli, grapes, jello, green beans, lettuce, etc. Let the kids play with the green food and talk about green foods are healthy choices. Another fun activity for the drama center is planting. Bring out the wheelbarrow, shovels, gloves, etc. Allow the kids to pretend to plant green plants. They will enjoy be a gardener.

Nature

Go for a nature walk and allow the kids to look for four leaf clovers and rainbows. It will be a nice change of pace from the routine of the indoors.

Books

There are so many great books out about St. Patrick's Day. Visit your local library so you do not have to spend a lot of money or buy used form Amazon. Here are my favorites.

St. Patrick's Day Alphabet by Beverly Vidrine and Patrick Soper

Hooray for St. Patrick's Day by Joan Holub

The Luckiest St. Patrick's Day Ever by Teddy Slater

St. Patrick's Day Countdown by Salina Yoon

The Night Before St. Patrick's Day by Natasha Wing

Music

Feel free to play Irish music in the background. I always use an old Corrs' CD. Here are a couple songs we sing.

Tune: I'm a Little Teapot ?I'm a little leprechaun short and stout. Look at my top hat and hear me shout. when I get all excited, listen to me dear. St. Patrick's Day is now right here.

Leprechaun Where Are You to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star??Leprechaun, Leprechaun, where are you? I tried to catch you, but away you flew. I'm going to get you just wait and see! Then all your gold will belong to me! Leprechaun, Leprechaun, where are you? I tried to catch you and away you flew

Feel free to leave suggestions of what works in your classroom in the comment section below. I hope you have a great time with this theme!
